6 Safety Tips for Trick-or-Treaters on Halloween

Along with the tricks, treats, ghouls and goblins, come spooky Halloween safety hazards that cannot be ignored. To stay safe this Halloween, implement a simple security plan, and keep in mind these 6 tips when trick-or-treating:

1) Dress Boo-tifully Bright

Dress your children appropriately and limit risk; wearing a bright or glowing colored costume will make children visible to drivers.

2) Avoid Masks

Masks can alter your field of vision, making trick-or-treaters more prone to injury while going door-to-door in unfamiliar areas.

3) Trick-or-Treat in Groups

Traveling with a group of people lessens the chance of a child becoming a victim; whether it be abduction or personal injury.

4) Plan a Spooky Route

Avoid neighborhoods without sidewalks. Make sure your group of goblins stick to the route, and designate a safe meeting spot in case of group separation.

5) Avoid Dark Areas

Stay in safe, well-lit areas, and bring a flashlight for darker parts of your route. Be sure to avoid houses with porch lights that are turned off.

6) Inspect Halloween Candy

Before your kids dive into their treat bag, make sure all candies are packaged and have not been tampered with. Beware of tricks, and do not eat any unfamiliar treats.
