A Big Shredded Success

Incred-A-Shred’s free-for-all shredding event earlier this month paid off big for our environment, Junior Achievement of Central Maryland and for hundreds of people in the community. Incred-A-Shred Truck

Lines of cars snaked through the parking lot of Baltimore’s Polytechnic High School on Saturday April 9th to haul boxes and bags of paper to three huge Incred-A-Shred trucks. Thanks to on-site cash donations and a $2500 check from Incred-A-Shred’s recycling proceeds, one Maryland school will have its costs covered to attend the Junior Achievement BizTown in Owings Mills.  Incred-A-Shred president Jeff Rupp will present the check at BizTown on Thursday May 5th along with Maryland Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler. The AG’s office attended the event to promote ways to fight identity theft – like shredding sensitive documents.

Here are the facts from the April 9th event:

37,481 lbs (18.7 tons!) of paper were shredded on-site

319 trees were saved through all the shredding (17 trees per ton of paper)

396 electronic devices were destroyed (hard drives, cell phones, thumb drives, video tapes)

1700+ people attended the event and donated to Junior Achievement

$900+ was collected through donations the day of the event

$2500 will be donated by Incred-A-Shred to Junior Achievement to support Biztown and other programs

Incred-A-Shred and Junior Achievement would also like to thank all the media, especially WJZ-TV, Fox 45, WBAL-TV and The Baltimore Sun, for their coverage and support of this benefit event. More shred events are being planned. Watch this space!
