Maryland elementary school students attending Junior Achievement’s Biztown in Owings Mills this month got a real-life lesson about bonuses. More than 70 students and teachers from Our Lady of Grace School in Baltimore County and Boonsboro Elementary School in Washington County got a bonus visit from Maryland State Attorney Douglas F. Gansler on May 5th.
Mr. Gansler opened the Biztown day with a proclamation from the student mayor and then joined Jeff Rupp, president of Incred-A-Shred, to donate a $3500 to help support the Junior Achievement program. The AG’s office and Incred-A-Shred raised the money during a free community identity theft prevention event at Polytechnic High School in Baltimore last month. Hundreds of people lined up to have their old paper records shredded for free.
The big check to JA was made possible by cash donations at the event and proceeds from the recycled paper donated by Incred-A-Shred. “We support Junior Achievement’s and this is our way of supporting great programs like Biztown,” says Rupp. The Biztown program allows students to get a hands-on learning experience about the economy in a fully-interactive simulated town facility.
