Strategic Communications & Marketing Internship Fall 2014

The Strategic Communications & Marketing Internship is an experiential learning opportunity focused on marketing communications and public relations, as well as marketing strategy and business development. Interns will gain firsthand experience of the day-to-day operations of an agency-type work environment including client relations, account strategy and activation and project management. Interns will also have the chance to learn more about crisis and issue management strategies and tactics from experienced senior professionals. Interns will work closely with and under the supervision of the Fallston Group Communications Strategist while collaborating with other senior team members. This is an engaging position offering interns the opportunity to directly interact with business and media professionals in the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. metropolitan areas. In addition to contributing to client accounts and projects, interns will have access to networking and training events.

Students are encouraged to choose a capstone project during the semester that includes strategic planning and communications tactics to achieve a specific business goal. Internship goals and objectives will be discussed and determined with the intern in alignment with his/her academic focus. The internship supervisor will provide milestone feedback regarding intern performance and growth throughout the semester. Typically, interns will create a portfolio to showcase their education and performance during the internship experience. In a final paper included in the portfolio, students reflect on their experience, assess their successes and challenges in the context of their predetermined objectives, and consider their next steps both professionally and academically.

The Strategic Communications & Marketing Internship is an unpaid position. Interns are expected to receive course credit from their academic institution. Program schedules are flexible and dependent upon the dates and times of availability provided by the student; however, interns are expected to commit to at least 8 hours per week in the Fallston Group office (approximately 112 hours total). The tentative start date for this position is Tuesday, September 2, 2014 and end date is Friday, December 12, 2014.
